Thinking about the eventual deaths of our grandparents and parents can seem morbid, but the truth is that if we want to properly preserve their legacies, some thinking and planning is required. We've all seen and perhaps purchased the prompt journals designed for older generations to record their memories and anecdotes, and sometimes they work, but this relies heavily on the subject and their motivation, and neglects to catch and explore particularly interesting topics with any depth.

A Life in Stories is a deep dive exercise driven by a human (me!) to treat your loved one like a celebrity or public figure and draw out the details and nuance from their memories and stories. If you're like me you know some old tales and funny memories that have been on heavy rotation at every family gathering, but have never asked the tough questions to truly understand with clarity who your parents are, and by association, who you are.

The process + product​

1. Discuss the concept with your parent or grandparent. There are some topics listed in the short questionnaire below which could serve as a good staring point to highlight any gaps in your knowledge.

2. Submit the below form.

3. I will review your info and then we chat about options for investment and select a package with a range including long form prose, a timeline, video interviews, portraits and photographs. 

3. Your loved one will sit for a minimum of two solo interviews of around one hour duration, then a "family interview" where others can join. The space between these interviews is determined by their energy levels and your schedule. 

​4. Content is compiled into a visual and/or written documentary of your choice.

Investment

Prices for the essentials begin at $2800 with a complete bells and whistles package for around $6000. Couples are welcome and pricing can be established once we've agreed the requirements.

Why me?

I've spent most of my adult life writing about the human condition, and photograph multi-generational families on a weekly basis. I am a professional storyteller and have been telling human interest stories both in fiction and as a travel writer for many years. One of my skills is the ability to pick lovingly at the thread of a story until something spectacular unravels. I'll be working with videographers with a particular knack for capturing human emotion in a clear and beautiful style.
