Perth Photographer Taya Reid - Year In Review
Artist Note:
This year I felt deeply conflicted about sharing our joy when so many people in the world suffered immense inhumanities and unfathomable pain. We holidayed, gorged on feasts with friends and held our happy, healthy children close in safety. Why us and not them, I will never understand. I compiled the below look-back with pride and gratitude, but also guilt and sorrow. Ceasefire now.
Stand Out Moments
A photographer has favourites for a variety of random and sometimes inexplicable reasons. Some are emotional pangs, light tricks or just a perfect memory. Here are my personal top shots from the year that was.
Life Aquatic
Swimming is in our blood in this part of the world, an urge we can't shake. We immerse ourselves in water and instantly melt away the shittiest parts of the day.
Yeah The Girls
Because there were too many beautiful girls and women this year, I had to make them their own category.
Connecting
My bread and butter, the essence of what I do. Brand new families of two walking down the aisle or long established families of twenty or more converging on the grandparents' property. Plus a doggo or two.
At Home
There are countless beautiful locations, but I encourage everyone to shoot at home at least once.
Last Light
There's a reason we shoot so late, waiting for that searing glow, followed by a soft, even tone that makes everything magical.
Business as Usual
Industry secret: If your business is human-centric with heart and soul don't choose a commercial photographer, choose a family photographer.
My Gang
People I love, places we went. Wadandi Boodja to the netball court, backyard to Bali, pub to pub to pub.
Taya. xx
